Version Availability
Updated October 12, 2026. The public App Store version last checked was paid version 1.1. Version 1.2, including optional Story Mode purchases and the updated leaderboard, has been submitted for review. The guidance below includes that upcoming update; it does not mean it is already available. Check the App Store for the version offered in your region.

- Directional arrows — move forward, backward, left or right relative to your opponent.
- JAB / CROSS — tap to punch. Hold GUARD first for uppercuts, L DUCK for left body / right hook, or R DUCK for left hook / right body.
- GUARD — hold to reduce damage; blocked punches still consume stamina.
- L DUCK / R DUCK — hold the matching direction to evade a head punch.
- BACKSTEP — tap to evade backward using stamina.
- L WEAVE / R WEAVE — tap for lateral evasion. L WEAVE then JAB connects to a left hook; R WEAVE then CROSS connects to a right hook.
A Practice Room with an in-app tutorial is available from the main menu to try out all controls before a real match.
Game Center
Game Center is optional. The Total Wins leaderboard requires an internet connection and Game Center sign-in. Ordinary RIVAL wins are submitted; Story victories do not increase this leaderboard. Sign-in or leaderboard availability does not affect offline matches. The first leaderboard is included with the 1.2 review submission and is not confirmed live by this page.
Story Mode in Version 1.2
Story Mode is an optional, one-time purchase, not a subscription. It unlocks the campaign and the First Bell starter outfit. Opponents open in sequence as you win; other Story outfits and the championship belt require the corresponding victories as well as Story access.
To restore access, open the Story purchase screen and choose Restore Purchases using the Apple account associated with the purchase. Eligible existing paid-app customers retain Story access without paying again. A network connection is required to verify purchases and restore access. Apple manages billing; the app does not receive payment-card details.
Restoring a purchase restores access, not deleted local campaign progress. If access is revoked, earned equipment requires valid access again; stored progress is not intentionally erased. For unresolved access problems, contact support with the app version and the error message. Do not send passwords or payment-card details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an internet connection to play?
Matches, the Gym and the AI run on your device. Story purchase verification, Restore Purchases and the optional Game Center leaderboard require a network connection. No separate RIVAL account is required.
Does RIVAL collect my personal data?
There is no developer analytics or advertising SDK in the app. Habits and progress are stored locally; Apple handles optional purchases and Game Center. See our Privacy Policy for details.
